A few weeks ago, during Doors Open Toronto, I visited the wonderful Hindu temple constructed north of the city last year. It’s officially known as a Mandir, and it’s the only building of it’s kind in Canada. This truly beautiful structure was built by 1,800 craftsmen using ancient building techniques and thousands of tonnes of hand carved marble, limestone and sandstone. There is no structural steel used in the construction and it is built to last more than 1,000 years.

Truly Amazing…!
This is truly breath taking and your photos are beautiful.
I had no idea there was such an amazing piece of ancient architectural history (building method) in Toronto. After looking at your photos I had to find out where the Mandir was and was shocked to find it so close to the city (427 and Finch) when it seems such a well kept secret!
Thanks for taking the time to blog about the Mandir…I can’t wait to see it for myself!
Thanks for the nice comments. When I was on the Doors Open tour the people in charge of the Mandir said they welcome visitors any time, and you don’t need an appointment. Before visiting please have a look at the web page below, which describes guidelines for visitors.
